Do I need to send a Save the Date for my upcoming wedding?

Save the dates are for weddings that are not local to the majority of guests or for weddings in the holiday periods. Your wedding might be a few hours away, interstate or overseas and you would send out save the dates, so your guests can prepare for it, by booking accommodation, making travel plans, taking time off work and arranging for carers for their pets, if they have any.

You can still send them if you wedding is local and you would like to give your guests alot of notice.

A save the date is a one sided, small card, generally C6 (114mm x 162mm) in size with an envelope and is printed with the date of your wedding, the bride and grooms name and the location.  It can also include the name of a hotel or hotels where guests can book and you can even ask if the hotel will give out a promotion code to all guests who stay in their hotel for your wedding. Here’s a handy tip – put a magnet on the back of it, so guests can keep it on their fridge and it will remind them to start planning for it.

Send it out to guests up to a year in advance. With these cards, you would not have to send out your wedding invitations with more than the usual 2 months notice, because guests are already aware and of the most important details of your wedding and they are well prepared for it.

Save the dates are generally a printed card with no embellishments.

If you were planning an engagement party, you could hand out your save the dates at the party.
